for G
October finds me lost in memories
Of you. Early morning light remembers
How we'd finally find sleep. Your breathe
A distraction, constantly calling me back
To the temptation at my side. I'd watch you
Lie there. I could tell I was not in your thoughts
As you slept. But you, inside me, surrounding me.
Your being like a thousand arms' embrace.
So comforting. So alone. Our lives -- so apart.
What gap did you fill? I need to know
Because it's empty again. A vacant space
That aches inside. The song I heard today
Echoes in the empty chambers of my heart
Where you used to be. Did you hear it?
Did you feel it? Winter's first chill?
A snowy empty spot where you should be.
